FORENSICS

Forensics is the study of something after the fact. Forensics involves a variety of talents to reconstruct and explain what occurred. When most people hear the word "forensic" they conjure an image from popular TV shows, such as "CSI" or "Quincy M.D." An engineer's structural forensic evaluation is not much different; however the subject is not a person or a crime scene, but a building or other structure. An accurate forensic analysis requires a thorough knowledge of building systems and components. Axiom Engineering's broad experience in the structural field contributes greatly to the quality and depth of its evaluations.
The forensic or failure evaluation begins with a thorough and detailed site inspection, during which background information is obtained, field sketches and notes are prepared, and photographs are taken. Our engineers carry a variety of test equipment and can usually diagnose the root cause and extent of the problem during the initial site inspection. In some cases more detailed testing is required. Where destructive evaluation is necessary, Axiom Engineering will obtain the client's concurrence prior to proceeding. As the client you can expect a preliminary verbal report following the site inspection, usually the same day. A comprehensive written report that is prepared using clear language to explain technical issues and illustrated with photographs is usually provided to the client within one week. In cases where diagrams or drawings enhance the understanding of the information, these will also be included with the report.
